X Box 1 v Playstation 4
Always been a playstation man myself, back in the day I didn't think Microsoft would have the legs to stay in the race when they were both originally released.

Time has come to hand over the baton, looking to get one of these for Christmas for my 2 (TWO) lads, aged 7 and 4.

Are the pair much of a muchness or is there a definitive selling point to one of the above which means I should go for one over the other?

price wise its exactly the same, just want to know which would be more user friendly at this stage in their gaming careers. (Obviously I will have a dabble as well!)

cheers!

That's what I did.

I've owned an Xbox 360 since 2006 and despite a few teething problems (ring of death c.2008), it has been a very reliable machine.

Most of the reviews I've read, the PS4 pips the Xbox One, but I bought the PS4 because the majority of my mates have one.

It seems that the Xbox is more of a multimedia device, whereas the PS4 is more suited to gaming from what I've read, however.

I've both and there is next to nothing between them. PS4 probably just shades it graphically, although for some reason X Box one graphics seem more stable (less clipping etc). I prefer X Box live over PSN too, but as someone said below it's so marginal, you should just go for whatever family & friends have.

My kids are desperate for Jurassic World. My son's getting it for the 3DS for his birthday, might have a slice on the PS4 though if it's that good.

Not sure about that, PC gaming is still very big

I guess what mitigates that a bit is that nobody is making big games for PC first these days, not a lot of money in it. Sometimes the PC is a bit of an after thought. Look at what happened with Arkham Knight.

Re: X Box 1 v Playstation 4
Alex, I would use the tech as a reason for buying the PS4, it's based on x86-64 architecture, so it would be very easy to port games made for a PC, which didn't use to be the case with previous versions

Used to be that Xbox has better (or at least bigger) online community, not sure how much that has changed recently.

Re: X Box 1 v Playstation 4
Anyone who is concerned about graphics and performance, should be buying a PC.

If you're deciding to choose between the PS4 and XBOX One, you should be buying the one most of your mates have.

The PS4 is apparently the slightly more powerful machine, I think that's undeniable. Though I don't think you'd really ever notice the difference in use. I wouldn't use the tech as a reason to buy one over another.

Re: X Box 1 v Playstation 4
But back to the original post which is better?
I too am thinking of spending. Now I have seen many YouTube vids that say the PS4 is the better bit of kit and so gives better graphics and performance. Is this still the truth or has the XBox had some surgery and has caught up and closed the gap?

It's the talk of the £40 season pass on top of the £50 game that really puts me off Battlefront. Just not prepared to pay that much for a game that I may or may not enjoy.

Confirmed - I WILL NOT be getting Star Wars. I know it is only the beta version at the moment but I honestly do not like it. I am playing LEGO Jurassic World at the moment (ans I am over 7 years old) You know what? It is a great game

Just had another look at the PS4 Uncharted 4 footage - it's basically a 15 minute continuous-shot car chase, must be one of the most amazing bits of game production ever created.

Just invested in an Nvidia Shield for using Kodi on, but believe they can also be used for streaming games from Steam for 7 quid a month for quite a few...given the kids are pretty young and games are generally very expensive, might be worth a look.
